Cover – Beautiful cover.. I’m a fan of fonts that look like handwriting. Despite the beauty in this cover it was the name of the book drew me in more than anything.

One glance was all it took…
I’m a cheater.
I’m a liar.
My whole life is a mess.
I love a man.
No, I love two men…
One makes love to me. The other sets me on fire.
One is my rock. The other is my kryptonite.
I’m broken, lost, and disgusted with myself.
But I can’t stop. This is my story.
My broken love story.
Once upon a time in a dark and gloomy world there was this book named Thoughtless who met this book named The Opportunist… the two were all wrong for each other; however, after one drunken night they made a baby… and we call this book Arsen.
This book blew my mind! My first thought when I finished was “what was that?!” (my very favorite and rare reaction to a book btw). A day and a half later and I still can’t get these characters and their story out of my head. It’s full of raw pain and brutal reality. This book was absolutely heartbreaking and I loved every second of it.
The book is mainly told in Cathy’s POV (her name is my one complaint with the book.. I only know older Cathy’s, so I had difficulty with my visuals – apologies if I offended any young Cathy’s out there). Cathy is this pretty average chick, only she has that whole “she don’t know she’s beautiful” thing going on. We meet her at about age 29. You can tell she has had a rough time and she’s a little broken. The book then transports us to the past so we can see what brought Cathy to this place in her life and how she met her husband. During her first year of college she literally runs into this guy Ben and there is an immediate attraction and connection between the two, but not really in an insta-love way (I hate insta-love, I loved them). These two go on to have a giddy love fest. Ben is pretty swoony in that he is hot, supportive, sweet and a “gentleman in the streets and a beast in the sheets” kind of guy. He’s so easy to love. Ben and Cathy marry after 4-5 years and six years of marriage and three miscarriages later, life has taken a toll on Cathy and her relationship with Ben.
Enter Arsen. He’s the son of the new owner of Cathy’s place of employment. He is sexy and has bad boy/ playboy written all over him.. and Page 6 in the local gossip column. He says what’s on his mind no matter how inappropriate and vulgar it is. And I must admit.. it’s pretty hot and it works for him 100%. Cathy is assigned to take Arsen under her wing at work and show him the ropes. After putting him in his place following repeated flirtations, t he two develop an unlikely bond and friendship that fills a void that Ben and her marriage have not been able to in some time. As time goes on and another shocking tragedy occurs in her life, Cathy takes comfort in Arsen and finds herself in love with two men who are both perfect in their own ways.
That’s about all I can say because I don’t want to give anything away. This book at times is hard to read. I felt so conflicted during it. The one thing I can say is that this book made me FEEL and it put me through the ringer. I was all giggles and giddy while reading “The Past” and watching the development of Cathy and Ben’s relationship. “The Present” chapters were a mixture of swooning, laughing, angst, pain, discomfort, heartbreak, and at times full blown anxiety. Although, I can’t personally relate to Cathy’s situation, I can completely relate to her. I felt for her and as hard as it was to watch her basically self-destruct… I understood why she did what she did, when she did it, and I felt like I was right there going through this experience with her. The end of this book was completely bittersweet and confusing for me. I thought the book was ending how I wanted, but that last chapter completely screwed with my head, and now I’m not sure what I wanted lol.
I feel sorry for my next book because it will not be getting my full heart… because for now it still lies scattered through the pages of Arsen.
