I love reading this type of book, but absolutely hate reviewing them! There is absolutely no way to do it justice. It’s a must read NOW book!
This book was my formal introduction to A.L. Jackson and all I can say is WOW! I have purchased a few of her books and I’m now ashamed to admit they have been sitting unread on my kindle with the rest of my TBR hoard. I have definitely been missing out and after reading this book I will easily be able to clear a few books from my kindle. I’m an instant fan!
This intense and gripping story immediately pulled me in and held me captive until the final page.
The story is absolutely amazing… full of grit, pain, heartbreak, and hope. I love A.L. Jackson’s writing voice as she tells this story in dual POV with past and present intertwined to form a memorable and complete story.
The characters depth and connection was mesmerizing. I felt like I knew these people. When they hurt, I hurt.. and with this book I hurt a lot.
Our main character Aly has basically been in love with Jared her whole life. She has unsuccessfully tried to move on since he disappeared from her life 6 years ago, but when he returns all her old feelings ignite with full force. Aly is a rare character. She is strong and her loyalty, compassion, and understanding of Jared is admirable.
Ugghh and Jared… he has had a tragic past that no one should have to endure. I just wanted to pull him from the pages and hug him forever. My heart ached for him; he was such a broken soul. It was painful to be inside his head at times. After finally deciding to return home after 6 years he runs into his best friend, Chris, and soon finds himself living with his former friends, Chris and Aly. After seeing Aly again Jared feels something other than pain for the first time in years, but fights hard against his feelings because he doesn’t feel like he deserves anything good in life.
Would she allow me to feed off her compassion and goodness? Would she let me wreck her? Destroy her? Because that was the only thing I knew how to do.”
These two along with their story were unforgettable and I can’t wait to read more of their story in Come To Me Softly in July.
