It’s no secret I care about my covers. Biggest pet peeve? Changing the covers before the complete series is out! I can’t stand to look at a series on my bookshelf and see mismatched covers. All I hear is that kid’s song (maybe from Sesame Street) that says “one of these is unlike the others, one of these doesn’t belong.” It drives me batty! Crazy solution that I’m embarrassed to admit… I buy the entire series AGAIN so that all my covers match. Good for the author… bad for me.
I understand why authors do this, I really do. Covers are important and you want your cover to be eye-catching to draw in more readers. Sometimes the author makes this decision and sometimes it’s not their decision at all. But can there be some sort of compromise to keep my OCD (Obsessive Cover Disease) at bay? Maybe offer an alternative cover to purchase that matches the previous books in the series? Pretty please? Would I pay more to have that option? Absolutely! Would I still complain about having to do so? You betcha! Sounds like a win for all lol.
I’m so disappointed about this change. I’ve been looking forward to my giant hand drawn baby rattle cover for years!
This was a sad cover change for me. The current covers are pretty and flow well together, but I LOVED the original covers for Crash & Clash. They are two of my favorites and I 100% based my purchase of Crash on the cover alone.
The new covers to this series are beautiful, but I was kind of looking forward to Out Of Breath being an open door to the world or something. Despite the fact that the originals didn’t flow as well as the new covers, I loved the books with the mysterious doors on the front just begging you to find out what’s behind them.
I’m a hypocrite for putting this on the list, because I put off reading Slammed a bit when it was first released because of the cover.
There is no denying that the new covers are beautiful. The covers for the original two didn’t match, so there’s really no room to complain about the covers being switched up. I did anyway.
My problem with the new covers is that they make the books blend in more with everything else out there. No book Colleen Hoover writes should just blend in.
So what about you? Do you care if your covers match? Is there a book whose cover changed and you preferred the original?
